Feather edge, also called closeboard, is built on site from vertical boards and horizontal rails. It suits privacy boundaries, awkward runs and gardens where a continuous line matters more than a standard panel.

still needs a plan.
Closeboard is built in place, so the finished look comes from the ground, the support and the top line as much as from the boards. These are the decisions worth settling before the quote is final.
Follow the ground
Slopes can be stepped, raked or changed between sections. The quote should explain how the bottom edge and top line will meet paths, walls, gates and neighbouring runs.
Build the support
Posts, rails, board spacing and the base detail work together. Height, exposure, roots, old concrete and access can all change the practical build.
Think beyond new boards
A closeboard repair is not automatically a board-only repair. Matching depends on the existing posts, rails, spacing, height and condition, so photos help confirm what can sensibly be kept.
